Based on the feedback requested a couple months ago via Troop eblast and Troop website, we only have seven confirmed and approved merit badge counselors within Troop 167.  Others have expressed interest in becoming a merit badge counselor. As you can see from the attached spreadsheet, there are many merit badges for which the Troop does not have an in-house counselor.  Please review the list and see where your skill sets would be served well in teaching Scouts a particular merit badge.
To qualify as a merit badge counselor, you must register as an adult Scouter and be approved by the council advancement committee for each merit badge listed on the Merit Badge Counselor Application (attached). A merit badge counselor does not have to pay a registration fee, but must complete an Adult Application (attached) for position code 42, fill out the Merit Badge Counselor Information form, and complete BSA Youth Protection training.
As you know, earning merit badges is a key component of rank advancement for Scouts, as well as a means to learning new skills and knowledge.  There are multiple ways a Scout can access merit badges (Merit Badge University, Massawepie, Troop merit badge counselors, merit badge counselors within the area, Rochester Museum & Science Center, etc.).

Eagle Project - Fundraising - Daniel Waldman

Hi Troop!
First I would like to start by thanking those of you who have donated funds to my Eagle Project. I really appreciate your support.  So far we have raised $330, a great start! I would also like to say that the link to the site has changed.  The new link is:
To get to the site, you need to use the link, because there is no Facebook profile connected with the project.  It does not come up in the search results if you go directly to the site. Thank you for your patience if you have tried to look under the site, and thank you for all the donations made to date!

Eagle Project - Fundraising - Daniel Waldman

Hello Troop!
I am working on my Eagle Scout project.  It is a raised boardwalk that will allow hikers in Lehigh Valley Park to cross a marshy area that is often flooded. This project is somewhat expensive due to the metal stanchions that we will be using, as well as the length of the boardwalk (150 feet).  In total, the entire project will cost around $3000.  The money will be used to purchase supplies for the project. This is a very costly project, but when it rains, the area that the boardwalk will cross is filled with almost a foot of water, making the train inaccessible to hikers and bikers.  Having this boardwalk constructed will allow for easier crossing of the marsh. To help with the fundraising I have set up a GoFundMe account, run by Victor Hiking Trails. I was hoping for a donation of five or ten dollars per person and we can help the hikers cross the marsh safely and without getting wet.
Thank you very much for your help!

Eagle Project - Will Scheuerman

Hi Scouts and Parents,

For my Eagle project I am working on a building that stores gear used by the McQuaid Cross Country Invitational as well as other teams and Monroe County Parks.  The exterior paint is peeling badly and the interior is unorganized.  For my project, we are painting the exterior, doing some repairs, and reorganizing part of the interior.  On the afternoon of the 23rd we'll be painting the exterior which is a combination of wood and cinderblock brick.  The County will powerwash the building before the 23rd so we will be ready to paint at 1PM!  Some Eagle Scouts from my cross country team will be joining us.

When you sign up at our Troop's website, please indicate if you can bring the following:

2 inch and 3 inch paint brushes

Paint stirrers

Rollers and paint roller pole extensions

Paint roller trays

Scouts, wear clothes that are ok if they get paint on them. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water.

Adults, if you are able to help, that would be really helpful.  There are two peak areas of the building that need to be painted and need to be reached by extension ladders.  Scouts are not able to work on an extension ladder so your help is appreciated.

Start: Aug 23 2016 - 12:30pm
End: Aug 23 2016 - 5:30pm
Location:  The "White" House. Genesee Valley Park

We will have a pizza lunch at 12:30 and will start painting at 1PM.  Our rain date will be Wednesday, August 24th.

Thanks for helping me on the project.  Please register at our Troop's website.  I will add a map shortly to the website that has the specific location of the site.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
